Rats.

They consume all,

Teaming, crawling upon one another,
Multiplying over and over once more,
Like stubborn bacteria; like fierce plague,

Like rats.

They are spiteful, fiendish creatures,
As they scurry and snarl, and crawl
and wound, fight, and destroy, infect

Like base vermin.

Yet they are scared; they fear, and weep
And wail; and pray, and stray and hide
Upon their isle, amongst star dotted voids

That strand them still.
