Crocodilian reverence.

Scale, tail and claw, perched upon rock,
Like an armoured god, fallen and glorious,
Sun worship, in a bask, like Sobek-Ra,
Ancient as cold stone, glyphs, wry prophets.

I would gaze and offer and revere, selfless,
Offerings; offal, hatchlings and foes,
Eternal as the river racing, light and dark,
Brackish, brutish knowledge, dreams, sunken.

Fertile hunter, with hunger, gentle anger,
To wrestle and to herd indiscriminately;
I would adorn like priests, superstitious,
Gazing grip, pointed tip of tooth, unflinching.
