Guinness draught.

I.
Nearly every date that I go on, I have a Guinness;
The best was from a pub in Bermondsey—
I remember it, for its thick white head,
So creamy and perfectly lined, like a cakes icing.
We sat outside in the fair cold, while she smoked;
We spent around five hours together that day.
We never saw each other again.

II.
Guinness Draught is funny, because it imitates—
It is convenient; it lasts longer and is cheaper,
But it is not the same: it is watery and weak,
Yet, when decanted into a glass, it looks the same.
I wondered today if this was like my affections—
Seeming just like the real thing, but weaker,
Convenient and watery still.
